The BIOCOOP headquarters is in Kitabi, the Southern Province of Rwanda. The organization focuses on the five districts near the Nyungwe National Park. It integrates conservation projects and aims to create sustainable economic development for the country. TROCAIRE will partner with BIOCOOP Rwanda in the project of Community led planning and management for biodiversity protection and resilient communities in Southern Rwanda

An Accountant role has arisen within our office for a period effective January 2020 to January 2024. Reporting to the CEO of BIOCOOP Rwanda, the role will work for the good financial management of the grant from TROCAIRE that will be secured from Jersey Overseas Aid JOA. Responsibilities include accounting, financial management and reporting. Specifically, the role covers the following broad responsibilities:

Grant Support

Post the transactions in the accounting system;
Prepare the bank reconciliations;
Work with the finance team to ensure log books are completed and monthly fuel reconciliation is done;
Supporting month end reporting processes and adequate filing of documents;
Assist in preparation of timesheets;
Work with the Project Coordinator during field visits to ensure all supporting documents and disbursements to beneficiaries are done on time.
General

Supporting the Programme Accountants in terms of TROCAIRE partner grant management reviews;
Support preparation for TROCAIRE audits
Other responsibilities as assigned by BIOCOOP Rwanda and TROCAIRE
The Accountant will work in close collaboration with the Tr�caire Country Finance and Administration Team and is a key partner to the rest of the Country Team to achieve the strategic and operational goals of Tr�caire in Rwanda. The role will commit 80% of time to Partner Grant Management and deliver this with the Programme Accountants and Finance and Administration Manager. 20% will be dedicated to the financial management of other BIOCOOP Rwanda projects. The role suits a team player, someone who available on short notice and is passionate about development and one who will be available from January 2020 to January 2024.

Expected skills, competencies and qualifications:

Relevant Accounting or Finance Degree: Bachelors or Masters
Experience with TROCAIRE rules and regulations
Minimum of 3 years� experience in Accounting/Finance in an NGO environment;
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft word and excel skills;
Demonstrated analytical skills;
Fluency in written and spoken English and French. Fluency in Kinyarwanda is an added advantage;
Good understanding of financial management systems. Exposure to SAGE accounting system is an added advantage; and
Impeccable integrity and work ethics, attention to detail and ability to work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
The Accountant is expected to participate in monthly grant review meetings in BIOCOOP Rwanda and Tr�caire and engaging with management to follow up on resolutions from monthly grant review meetings to ensure timely resolution of matters agreed. The Accountant role requires someone with strong understanding of procurement, internal controls, risk management and payment cycle. The role is expected to make recommendations to BIOCOOP Rwanda on areas that require improvements in terms of grant management, policies and internal controls.
