Summary of Role

The communications officer, reporting to the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Director, will be responsible for documenting and communicating about IntraHealth International’s work on the USAID�s Ingobyi Activity. S/he will also liaise with USAID�s communications staff to identify the best news and stories for broader corporate dissemination. S/he will use various approaches to share the important work that IntraHealth is doing in Rwanda to achieve better health outcomes with donors and other stakeholders. The communications officer will build and sustain IntraHealth’s reputation for excellence, openness, partnership, and accountability and helps the organization gain visibility and recognition for its work in Rwanda. The communications officer will ensure that communications adhere to the organization�s and the donor�s Branding and Marking Guidelines. The communications officer will be based in Kigali, Rwanda with field travels where Ingobyi Activities are implemented.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develop and implement communication and documentation plan for the USAID�s Ingobyi Activity;
In collaboration with Ingobyi Activity Team, identify and develop success stories, blogs, news briefs, messages for various radio and TV interviews and shows to share results for dissemination throughout IntraHealth, to USAID, MOH, and other external audiences and stakeholders;
In collaboration with Ingobyi Activity program staff, draft abstracts and prepare presentations and/or posters for submission to local and international conferences;
Review and update all programmatic materials for accuracy and adherence to IntraHealth and USAID branding guidelines, providing quality assurance of project reports;
In collaboration with technical and SBC team, and in consultation with the global communications team, support the development of the USAID�s Ingobyi Activity communication strategy;
Interact with the Communications team at the HQ office to understand the global communication strategy and practices.
Work closely with the IntraHealth International HQ to develop accurate, creative story ideas for a variety of media and marketing materials;
Work with USAID�s Ingobyi Activity Rwanda Management Team to ensure that all personnel are familiar with the Communications Manual and processes;
Engage USAID�s Ingobyi Activity staff to identify strategic/ key/ inspiring activities to develop into communication pieces;
Work with USAID�s Ingobyi Activity Rwanda team to develop success stories and to explore opportunities for potential success stories;
Submit photos, stories, and other content upon request for IntraHealth to use and adapt on its corporate website and social media platforms;
Conduct field visits and attend conferences as requested to document, photograph and/or film activities and achievements;
Assist the program staff in preparing the materials needed for events and workshops and to produce summary reports, newsletters and press articles for events and workshops;
Work in close collaboration with Ingobyi Activity partner organizations to harmonize documentation efforts consistent with overall strategic communication plan;
Serve as the principal liaison with IntraHealth HQ Communications Department;
Serve as IntraHealth focal person for USAID�s Ingobyi Activity communications efforts;
Organize and maintain IntraHealth/ Ingobyi shared drive, and ensure that key documents are uploaded to IntraHealth portal and share drive;
Perform other duties as assigned by the MEL Director and Chief of Party.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Bachelor�s Degree in communications, journalism, English, international relations or related field. Master�s Degree is preferred;
At least four (4) years of relevant work experience in communications within international development or health-focused organizations;
Working knowledge of international health and development organizations preferred;
Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication in English; written & spoken English skills. French knowledge is an added asset;
Solid computer skills to include proficiency using email, word processing, and spreadsheet applications, preferably Microsoft Office, and desktop publishing software, PowerPoint, 365 Microsoft office;
Track record of a strong commitment to sharing knowledge, documenting the experience and supporting creative initiatives;
Strong skills in relationship-building and communicating effectively;
Proven team player with strong interpersonal skills;
Self-starter who needs minimal supervision to balance priorities, be involved in a variety of activities in a time-sensitive, high-pressure environment, and meet competing deadlines;
Experience building communications capacity at individual and organizational levels?
The ability to liaise with senior MOH officials and dignitaries, executives of NGOs, FBOs, CBOs, the for-profit business community, and senior members of the donor community?
Demonstrated in-depth understanding of the Rwandan healthcare system, particularly the public health system, experience living and working in Rwanda preferred;
Familiarity with USAID or other USG administrative, management and reporting procedures and systems;
Excellent written, presentation, communication, and organizational skills in English;
Ability to travel both nationally and internationally.
