Disability Technical Specialist

About the Role:

The Disability Technical Specialist will uplift work with children and youth with disabilities (CwDs/YwDs). Save the Children�s Country Strategic Plan and related assessments have outlined the need to develop appropriate approaches to tackle issues faced by children/youth with disabilities including lack of or insufficient services, marginalization, weak government systems, and public awareness.

Qualifications and Experience

Postgraduate or equivalent in the field of education, psychology, sociology, social work or related area;
Minimum seven years of work experience in disability inclusion, disability rights, and with practical experience in child-focused humanitarian and/or development programming;
Has a good relationship and wide network with disability experts and OPDs in Rwanda and beyond;
Excellent conceptual and theoretical understanding of rights-based approach, children�s rights, and rights of persons with disabilities;
Excellent ability to anticipate and design operational advice and technical capacity building on disability mainstreaming within health, education, humanitarian, child protection and child rights reporting programming.
Understanding of Rwandan context and issues of CwDs in humanitarian and development programming;
Results oriented, with excellent ability to work under the pressure. The position requires effective time management, multi-tasking and strong coordination and planning skills;
Experience supporting strategic planning, programme design and proposal development;
Experience in successfully establishing and managing collaborative relationships and partnership;
Experience in designing and implementing capacity building programmes, as well as providing capacity building support and facilitation;
Credibility to lobby, influence and represent Save the Children at various levels;
Excellent networking, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills;
Fluency in written and spoken English and Kinyarwanda.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

This position is on Child Safeguarding- Level 3: The post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs. Or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.
