On Friday, President F\u00e9lix-Antoine Tshisekedi<\/strong> received a delegation of 11 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs)<\/strong>, who reaffirmed the EU\u2019s support<\/strong> for his leadership and expressed a strong desire for the European Union to play a greater role in resolving the crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo<\/strong>, particularly following the EU Parliament\u2019s unanimous condemnation of Rwanda<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n

According to the DRC Presidency, the MEPs delivered a message of solidarity<\/strong> from the European Union to the Congolese government.<\/p>\n

MEP Hilde Vautmans<\/strong>, who led the delegation, stated that they discussed a range of key issues<\/strong>, including humanitarian assistance for victims<\/strong>, combating sexual violence used as a weapon of war<\/strong>, and ongoing peace processes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

She condemned the sexual violence in strong terms, declaring:<\/p>\n

\u201cEnough is enough. This must stop.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Addressing diplomatic efforts like the Luanda and Nairobi processes<\/strong>, as well as peace talks held in Doha and Washington<\/strong>, one MEP commented:<\/p>\n

\u201cEurope can contribute, as it has already passed a resolution condemning Rwanda\u2019s aggression.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Their visit follows an invitation by the President of the Congolese Senate<\/strong>, Sama Lukonde Kyenge<\/strong>, during his visit to the EU headquarters on March 27, 2025<\/strong>, according to Radio Okapi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

However, this visit is part of a broader European push to regain influence<\/strong> in the Congo peace process, from which it appears to have been sidelined<\/strong> in favor of actors like the African Union<\/strong>, the United States<\/strong>, and more recently Qatar<\/strong>. The EU\u2019s absence at the negotiation table<\/strong> is a growing concern, particularly for countries like Belgium<\/strong> and France<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
