{"id":43014,"date":"2021-12-16T13:49:07","date_gmt":"2021-12-16T13:49:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.bwiza.com\/2021\/12\/16\/muhayimana-verdict-due-on-thursday\/"},"modified":"2025-02-25T19:15:55","modified_gmt":"2025-02-25T17:15:55","slug":"muhayimana-verdict-due-on-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bwiza.com\/?p=43014","title":{"rendered":"Muhayimana verdict due on Thursday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The French court, Cour d\u2019 Assises Paris is set to deliver a verdict in a case involving genocide suspect Claude Muhayimana on Thursday, December 16.<\/p>\n<p>The trial started on November 22 after being postponed on several occasions.<\/p>\n<p> Muhayimana faces charges of genocide, complicity in genocide, and crimes against humanity, mainly committed in his home area of Kibuye (presently Karongi District) during the Genocide against the Tutsi.<\/p>\n<p> He is particularly accused of participating in the massacre of the Tutsi in the Saint-Jean compound in the town of Kibuye and in Gatwaro stadium, killing people in the area.<\/p>\n<p> After proving his participation in genocide crimes, the French prosecution requested that he should be sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>Muhayimana worked as a driver at a hotel in the former Kibuye prefecture in western Rwanda, and he is accused of transporting Interahamwe militia to various localities where they massacred Tutsis.<\/p>\n<p>He is said to have worked closely with then prefect of Kibuye, Cl\u00e9ment Kayishema, who ordered the massacre of thousands of people who had sought refuge at the stadium. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The French court, Cour d\u2019 Assises Paris is set to deliver a verdict in a case involving genocide suspect Claude Muhayimana on Thursday, December 16.
