LOCATION: Musha-Rwamagana<\/p>\n
REPORTS TO: EC Supervisor <\/p>\n
JOB GRADE: C1<\/p>\n
JOB PURPOSE: This role is responsible to ensure effective implementation and adherence to environmental standards and guidelines applicable to the mining operations, this includes implementation and adherence to environmental legislation requirements and conditions as outlined in the Environmental authorizations. Coordinate, maintain, and update data required for environmental reporting. Identification of environmental risk associated with the mining operations, as well as assist in addressing potential problems. Investigate environmental incidents and maintain a system of reporting incidents. Organize employee environmental awareness training for to ensure that employees are familiar with the environmental risks associated with their duties<\/p>\n
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:<\/p>\n
Co-ordinate and report on environmental issues on site;
\nInspect and monitor mining and processing operations for environmental compliance;
\nUndertake sampling required for water, noise, dust and other environmental aspects and submit for analysis;
\nInterpret analyses received and provide advice on results and conclusions;
\nEnsure correct management of waste, sanitation, domestic, storm and wastewater;
\nRecord results of inspections, audits, incidents, analyse the trends and advise management accordingly and share successes and lessons learnt;
\nDevelop the required training materials and ensure that all employees and contractors are trained and familiar with the site environmental requirements;
\nIdentify environmental impacts and aspects relating to the day-to-day construction activities;
\nConduct audits on all sites (mine and contractors) as required by the applicable legal and other requirements and follow-up on implementation of corrective and preventative actions;
\nCompile accurate environmental performance and other reports, in line with mine and Head Office requirements;
\nLiaise with the management regarding project environmental matters and providing accurate feedback at meetings as required;
\nLiaise closely with all divisions in Piran (community, health and safety, procurement, HR, mining, exploration etc.) to ensure there is coordination, communication and environmental risks minimised where possible;
\nEnsure proper monitoring, evaluation, control and investigation of environmental incidents;
\nKeep and maintain up to date records, information and data for all environmental activities;
\nComplete monitoring and database maintenance as per license conditions and reporting requirements;
\nDevelop rehabilitation and closure plans with costs as required;
\nPlan and carry out reclamation activities as required;
\nReport all environmental hazards, near misses and incidents in accordance with site requirements;
\nSupport Community, Health and Safety functions to ensure successful implementation and maintenance of integrated health, safety, environment and community management;
\nPromote a favourable public image of the company through community outreach programs;
\nGood knowledge of environmental issues relevant to the mine operations;
\nEnsure environmental awareness and knowledge of all personnel and contractors on site;
\nProvide professional environmental advice, when required; and
\nParticipate in the Environmental and Social impact assessment review and keep updating the Environmental and social action plans tracker updated.
\nJob Requirements: Environment Officer should have the following education, experience, and skills:<\/p>\n
Relevant degree or diploma in Environmental Science, natural resources management, or any other related engineering degree
\nAt least 2 years\u2019 experience in mining\/process environment in a related field.
\nRelevant Environmental Short-Course in Environmental legislation.
\nComputer literacy: MS Office
\nPresentation and facilitation skills
\nProfessional Registration with Professional Bodies where applicable.
\nKnowledge of community, labor, and government relations.
\nKnowledge of good C&E practices in the mining industry.
\nExposure to the challenges of operating in remote sites.
\nExposure to the multicultural working environment
