{"id":55268,"date":"2023-01-13T20:20:00","date_gmt":"2023-01-13T18:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.bwiza.com\/?p=55268"},"modified":"2025-02-25T19:06:18","modified_gmt":"2025-02-25T17:06:18","slug":"two-m23-colonels-promoted-to-brigadier-generals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bwiza.com\/?p=55268","title":{"rendered":"Two M23 Colonels promoted to Brigadier Generals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>M23 political leader Bertrand Bisimwa, has promoted two lebel group senior officers from the ranks of Colonels to Brigadier Generals.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The promoted according to the statement released by the movement on Friday, are Colonel Yusufu Mboneza and Bernard Maheshe Byamungu.<\/p>\n<p>Byamungu and Mboneza who is number two in M23 military after General Sultani Makenga, have been promoted after commanding several attacks against Congolese army that helped the rebel group to capture Bunagana border post and several parts of the North Kivu Province.<\/p>\n<p>M23 rebels have however began withdrawing from some territories they had seized in recent offensives as part of what one of the group&#8217;s leaders termed a goodwill gesture in a ceasefire brokered by East African regional leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Last month the rebels handed over positions they had occupied around Kibumba, some 20 km (12.4 miles) north of the Congolese city of Goma, to commanding officers of the East African Community regional force.<\/p>\n<p>It was before handing over the Rumangabo military base they had seized in October, to the military force of East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) early this month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>M23 political leader Bertrand Bisimwa, has promoted two lebel group senior officers from the ranks of Colonels to Brigadier Generals.
