At least seven people have died after a road bridge collapsed onto a railway line in Russia near the border with Ukraine, according to emergency services.
The bridge, located in Bryansk, fell along with several heavy trucks and crashed onto a passenger train during the night of Saturday into Sunday. Reports indicate that 31 other people were also injured.
Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations stated that firefighters and rescue teams worked to search for people trapped inside the train, according to this report from the BBC.
In a statement shared on Telegram, the Moscow Railway Company said that the bridge collapsed “as a result of unauthorized interference in railway operations.”
Just a few hours later, a second bridge also collapsed on the Trosna-Kalinovka highway in the Kursk region, according to Alexander Khinshtein, the acting governor of the Kursk Oblast.
