The Congo River Alliance (Alliance Fleuve Congo – AFC), which includes the M23 rebel group, has reassigned Birato Rwihimba Emmanuel—who was recently appointed Governor of South Kivu Province—to new responsibilities.
Birato had been appointed Governor of South Kivu in February this year, shortly after M23 forces captured the city of Bukavu, the provincial capital.
In a statement released on Wednesday, June 4, and signed by AFC’s coordinator Corneille Nangaa, the alliance announced that Birato has been named the Head of the Office for Education, Trade Promotion, and Investment Development.
