In response to escalating tensions in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Burundi National Defence Force (FDNB) has dispatched additional troops to the Fizi and Uvira territories. This deployment aims to counteract the advances of armed groups, notably the M23 and Twirwaneho militias, which have been accused of expanding their control in the highlands of South Kivu.
Recent reports indicate significant movements of Burundian soldiers in strategic areas such as Bijombo and Minembwe, raising concerns about potential large-scale confrontations in the region.
