The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) have once again launched drone strikes in the highlands of Mulenge, South Kivu—an area under the control of the Twirwaneho militia and M23 rebels. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, May 15, 2025, when FARDC and its allies launched a drone from Kisangani that dropped bombs in Mikenke, a locality under the control of Twirwaneho and the M23.

Sources indicate that one of the bombs landed near civilians. The drone had reportedly been hovering in the area for several days, conducting surveillance before striking. Luckily, it caused no fatalities or visible damage, although investigations are ongoing to assess possible destruction.

Locals confirmed that the bombs landed dangerously close to residential areas, triggering panic and forcing many residents to flee into nearby bushes, where some are still hiding.

This follows a similar attack just two months ago, when FARDC drones bombed Minembwe’s highlands—specifically Mulenge—causing civilian deaths, injuries, and damage to livestock and property.

Earlier this year, in February, FARDC launched several airstrikes in various parts of the region, including Lundu, Kiziba, Gakangala, and the local airstrip. Those strikes left numerous civilians dead and damaged the Minembwe airstrip located in Kiziba.
