On July 9, President Trump is set to host the African leaders at a dinner reception at the White House, which will also feature various bilateral and multilateral discussions.
According to reports, Trump’s administration is seeking to strengthen U.S.–Africa relations, particularly in sectors like trade and mineral resource extraction.
A White House official stated that Trump believes “African nations offer unique trade opportunities that can benefit both Americans and their African partners.”
The summit will particularly focus on how the U.S. can gain greater access to Africa’s critical minerals—notably lithium, cobalt, and rare earth elements, which are essential for the electronics and renewable energy industries.
