The Governor of Haut-Katanga Province, Jacques Kyabula, has been summoned to Kinshasa to explain his recent statements regarding former President Joseph Kabila Kabange and Corneille Nangaa, the leader of the AFC/M23 coalition.

The Minister of Interior Security, Jacquemin Shabani, issued the summons, although reports suggest the order may have come directly from President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo.

In the letter addressed to Kyabula, Minister Shabani instructed him to “suspend all his activities and report to Kinshasa within 48 hours.”

Kyabula was summoned just hours after publicly declaring that “the root cause of the war in eastern DRC is Kagame, not Kabila or Nangaa.

He added, “Kabila and Nangaa are Congolese citizens; their issues should be resolved within the family.

His comments stood in sharp contrast to the position of the Kinshasa government, which considers Kabila and Nangaa as traitors and sworn enemies.

Corneille Nangaa has been sentenced to life imprisonment after joining forces with the M23 rebel group to create the Alliance Fleuve Congo, which aims to overthrow President Tshisekedi’s government.

Since Joseph Kabila’s visit to Goma, a city under M23 control, Kinshasa has also accused him of aligning with the rebellion to unseat the current regime.
