Real Madrid star player Kylian Mbappé was rushed to the hospital due to a stomach illness, according to a statement released by the club on Thursday.
Mbappé missed his team’s first match in the Club World Cup tournament, which took place in Miami against Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, due to a high fever.
Real Madrid’s coach, Xabi Alonso, said he hopes Mbappé will recover in time for the upcoming match on Sunday against Pachuca.
The club reported that Mbappé will undergo various medical tests and be closely monitored by doctors.
His absence is a major blow to the tournament, especially since he is one of the world’s top football players.
FIFA, the governing body of the tournament, aims for the Club World Cup to become a globally popular and prestigious event that attracts a large fan base worldwide.
