The coordinator of the Congo River Alliance (Alliance Fleuve Congo – AFC), which includes the M23 rebel group, announced that M23 is set to replace the Congolese national army (FARDC), which he says has already collapsed.

Nangaa made this statement in a recent interview with researcher Alaix Destexhe.

This politician, who previously headed the Electoral Commission in the DRC, promised the Congolese people that the AFC exists for their benefit and represents their hope.

Nangaa stated that the AFC/M23 currently forms the core of the now-defunct Congolese army and that it will soon take its place.

He said: β€œThe army has already collapsed; there is now a core of that army which is gradually becoming stronger β€” a professional army that knows how to fight. I commend its Commander-in-Chief and leader, Gen. Makenga. This is the future army of the Democratic Republic of Congo.”

Nangaa also assured Congolese citizens that security issues β€” especially the killings taking place in various parts of the country β€” are a top priority, and the AFC is ready to find solutions.
