The Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Olivier Nduhungirehe, held a telephone conversation with the Minister of State at Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, focused on expressing Rwanda’s solidarity with the people of Qatar following recent missile attacks launched by Iran.

During the conversation, Minister Nduhungirehe conveyed Rwanda’s message of sympathy and support to the people of Qatar, while also condemning the missile attacks that targeted the U.S. Air Force base at Al Udeid in Qatar.

On Monday, June 23, 2025, Iran announced that it had launched attacks on U.S. military bases located in both Qatar and Iraq, in retaliation for strikes carried out against it by the U.S. on Sunday, June 22, 2025.

This attack happened while Qatar had already closed its airspace as a precaution, following threats from Iran. Qatar reported that the missile strikes caused no damage thanks to its air defense systems, which intercepted the missiles before they could reach the ground.

In a statement released by Qatar’s Ministry of Defense, it was confirmed that the country’s air defense had successfully thwarted the missile attacks launched by Iran on the U.S. base at Al Udeid, and that there were no casualties.

Iran also launched missiles at the Ain al-Assad base in Iraq, which houses U.S. troops, according to a senior Iraqi security official who spoke to the British news agency Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
