This past Saturday, Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi announced that the final round of nuclear disarmament talks between the United States and Iran, scheduled for Sunday in Muscat, has been canceled. Oman has long served as a mediator in these discussions.
Albusaidi’s statement came just one day after Israel launched a massive military strike on Iran, targeting and killing senior military leaders and nuclear weapons experts. The assault also involved airstrikes on suspected nuclear facilities in an effort to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear arms.
A senior official in the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, who requested anonymity, confirmed that Sunday’s meeting was officially called off.
Meanwhile, hostilities between Israel and Iran have intensified, with both sides exchanging missile fire and drone attacks. A recent Iranian strike near Haifa and Tel Aviv reportedly killed 10 people and injured over 100 others.
