The Intermediate Prosecution of Huye is pursuing charges against a 20-year-old woman suspected of killing her 2-year-old daughter by throwing her into a latrine.
The alleged crime occurred on May 9, 2025, around 3:00 PM in Cyarwa Cell, Tumba Sector, in the Huye District.
According to a statement from the National Public Prosecution Authority, the suspect confessed during interrogation that she took her child to the toilet in the compound where she was working as a cleaner. She held the child’s arms and legs, tried to force her into the latrine, but when the upper body couldn’t fit, she pushed the child’s head down forcibly until she fell in.
She claimed she committed the act because she had nothing to feed the child, and the man who impregnated her did not offer any support. She reportedly asked for forgiveness during the interrogation.
If found guilty of murder, the woman faces a life sentence, as stipulated in Article 107 of Law No. 68/2018 of 30/08/2018 which defines offenses and penalties in general.
