A fire broke out after midnight at Marien Hospital in the city of Hamburg, Germany, with smoke spreading through all floors of the affected building.
At least three people died and fifty others were injured in the blaze that engulfed the hospital in northern Hamburg, according to this report by Deutsche Welle.
The fire started just after midnight in one of the buildings of Marien Hospital in the Hohenfelde district. A spokesperson from the fire department stated that thick smoke had reached all floors of the building.
The cause of the fire remains unclear, but it is known that it began in the geriatrics department, which cares for elderly patients. A large emergency response team was dispatched to contain the fire and evacuate patients to safety.
