President Donald Trump of the United States has barred citizens of up to 20 countries from entering U.S. territory, including Burundi.

Trump announced that the decision, which he made last night, was part of efforts to “protect [his] country from foreign terrorists.”

Of the 19 countries whose citizens were restricted, 12 were completely banned. Most of these are African nations.

These countries include Afghanistan, Burma (Myanmar), Chad, Congo-Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

Trump made this decision following a recent attack in the state of Colorado that killed 15 people.

A statement released by the White House said that citizens of seven other countries were also barred from entering the U.S. because they “pose a serious threat” to the country.

These countries include Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.

This ban on citizens of those countries comes as Trump’s administration continues its agenda of expelling millions of immigrants from the U.S., coming from various countries around the world.

These include around 37,000 people that reports say Trump expelled during the first month of his presidency.

Currently, reports indicate that Washington is in talks with countries including Rwanda to receive the deported migrants.
