Trump Confirms Congo–Rwanda Peace Deal Signing Set for Friday

The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has confirmed that the peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda will be signed this Friday, June 27.

He made this announcement during his speech last Wednesday, June 25, in The Hague, Netherlands, at the NATO summit.

The confirmation by the U.S. President follows an earlier statement made recently regarding the same topic, amidst significant progress in resolving tensions between the two nations.

It is worth recalling that both countries, DRC and Rwanda, signed a historic declaration on April 25 with the support of the U.S. Department of State in Washington, where both parties expressed strong political will to resolve the conflict through peaceful means.

Relations between DRC and Rwanda have remained strained, further exacerbated by ongoing tensions over natural resources and regional security.

The Congolese government accuses Rwanda of supporting armed rebel groups in eastern Congo, and even claims that many towns are currently under the control of Rwandan forces and M23 rebels — allegations that Rwanda has consistently denied.

Many observers see Donald Trump’s return to the White House as a powerful signal in addressing the region’s security crisis, especially given his ties with American industrialists interested in Congo’s mineral wealth.
