U.S. President Donald Trump has officially invited President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to Washington.
Trump signed the invitations last Friday, just days after Rwanda and the DRC signed a peace agreement aimed at ending decades of tensions between the two neighboring nations.
The peace deal was signed by the respective Ministers of Foreign Affairs: Ambassador Olivier Nduhungirehe of Rwanda and Thérèse Wagner Kayikwamba of the DRC.
In his invitation to the two presidents, President Trump congratulated them for putting an end to what he described as “decades of conflict” between Rwanda and the DRC.
Barring any changes, the two heads of state are expected to be received at the White House in Washington, D.C. next month (July). The visit is expected to pave the way for stronger cooperation between Kigali and Kinshasa, especially in economic development.
