U.S. President Donald Trump expressed disappointment over Russian President Vladimir Putin’s conduct in the Ukraine war, but emphasized that he hasn’t completely ruled out dialogue.
In an interview with the BBC, Trump said he once believed there was a chance to end the war, but things repeatedly took a wrong turn. He stated:
“We were close to reaching a deal four different times, but each time, it was followed by new attacks.”
This came shortly after announcing a new weapons shipment to Ukraine and giving Russia a deadline of nearly two months to de-escalate the war — or face tough economic sanctions.
Trump, who once criticized NATO, now views the alliance as strong and committed:
“NATO is now paying its dues and moving forward strongly.”
He also mentioned surviving an assassination attempt last year in Pennsylvania, adding that he avoids dwelling on how it affected him, though he admits it changed his life forever.
Trump further said he is working hard to deport undocumented immigrants, stating that thousands have already been sent back to El Salvador and other Latin American countries.
Finally, he announced plans for a second state visit to the United Kingdom this September, where he will meet King Charles III, expressing high respect for the monarch.
This announcement comes as Russia intensifies drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, mostly impacting civilians. Putin, on his end, says he wants peace — but insists the root causes of the war must be addressed first.
