Police in Nigeria’s Delta State have arrested two young men who appeared in a viral video on social media smoking marijuana while sitting on top of a police patrol vehicle and insulting law enforcement.

The arrested suspects are Patrick Asini (34) and Tega Ojo (20). They were apprehended after their video widely circulated on X (formerly Twitter), sparking public outrage and prompting quick police action.

In the video, filmed at a riverside, one of them is seen sitting on a marked police vehicle labeled “Nigeria Police Force Anti-crime Patrol, Oghara Division”, smoking marijuana. A voice is also heard saying: “Tell them, we have no problem with the police. Pass me some weed too.” One of the men was seen raising his middle finger towards a distant police officer.

According to SP Bright Edafe, spokesperson for the Delta State Police, the two suspects were arrested and several items were seized at the location where they were hiding.

The seized items include: a military uniform, a green beret, a face mask, a machete, an axe, 6 mobile phones, 4 laptops, marijuana, and grinders used for processing weed.

SP Edafe emphasized that the police remain committed to ensuring safety and law enforcement, adding:
“The Police is your friend. It all depends on how you choose to see it.”
