Starting this Sunday, February 23, 2025, Rwanda will host the 17th edition of the International Cycling Race, Tour du Rwanda, which will take place across various districts of the country.

The Rwanda National Police reminds citizens to avoid anything that could obstruct the race, which will cover 804 kilometers across 23 districts.

The spokesperson for the Rwanda National Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Boniface Rutikanga, urged fans to support the race calmly and safely, avoiding anything that could hinder the cyclists or cause accidents.

He stated: “Cycling races, like many other sports events, attract large crowds. Along the routes, especially in cities, commercial centers, and rural areas, many people gather to enjoy the event.”

He added: “We urge spectators to stay away from road edges, avoid leaving small children alone near the roads, and refrain from crossing the roads while the cyclists and official vehicles are passing, as the racers move at high speeds, making it hard to predict when they’ll approach.”

Traffic Adjustments During the Race

ACP Rutikanga mentioned that some roads would be temporarily closed during the race and asked drivers to be patient with these changes.

He said: “Certain roads will be closed for short periods to ensure the smooth running of the race. Road users are advised to wait patiently until the roads reopen or use alternative routes guided by police officers on-site.”

Daily updates on temporarily closed roads will be shared through various Rwanda National Police platforms.
