The construction of Rusizi Port has reached 85% completion. Minister of Infrastructure, Dr. Jimmy Gasore, urged private sector actors in the Western Province to prepare to capitalize on the port, which is expected to enhance trade, including cross-border commerce.
The port is located in Budike, on the shores of Lake Kivu in Rusizi District. It was visited by Minister Dr. Gasore and will offer services such as customs clearance, goods storage, and passenger and cargo boat operations.

Minister Gasore emphasized that, with the completion of the Rubavu Port, Rusizi Port will add further value to the region.
He also visited the nearly completed building at the Rusizi II border, which will host joint border services between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Minister reiterated that the port will benefit the country by improving trade between neighboring countries and called on the private sector to make good use of the facility.
The first phase of construction is expected to be completed by the end of this year, with operations set to begin in January 2026.
