On Thursday, April 8, Cardinals of the Catholic Church elected a new spiritual leader to succeed Pope Francis, who passed away last month.
The new Pope, the 267th in the history of the Church, was elected inside the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City, with white smoke signaling the successful election.
His name has not yet been revealed to the public, but he was chosen in the third round of voting, after the first two ballots ended with black smoke—indicating no consensus had been reached.
