On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, iconic film actor Gerard Depardieu was found guilty by a Paris court of sexually harassing two women during the filming of “Les Volets Verts” (“The Green Shutters”) in 2021.
The 76-year-old actor was sentenced to 18 months of suspended prison time. He was not present in court when the verdict was delivered.
What Was He Accused Of?
During a four-day trial in March, Depardieu’s lawyer, Jeremie Assous, claimed the accusations were fabricated and demanded they be dropped.
Prosecutors reported that one complainant, a costume designer, told investigators she first heard obscene remarks from Depardieu. About an hour later, she said he “physically assaulted her” after leaving the film set. She alleged that he restrained her by the legs, touched her hips, abdomen, and breasts, all while speaking offensive language.

Another accuser, an assistant, claimed that Depardieu groped her buttocks and breasts on three separate occasions during filming.
While Depardieu denied the charges during the trial, he did admit to using inappropriate language and grabbing the costume designer by the hips during a heated argument. However, he rejected the claims that his actions were sexual in nature.
According to Reuters, Judge Thierry Donard ruled that Depardieu’s defense lacked credibility.
