Officials say the exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia is expected to be the largest of its kind since the war began over three years ago, and it is set to continue this Sunday.
During negotiations held earlier this month in Istanbul, Turkey, Kyiv and Moscow agreed to swap 1,000 individuals, including prisoners of war and detained civilians.
On Saturday, May 24, 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russia’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that 307 soldiers had been exchanged, following the release of 390 soldiers and civilians on Friday.
On Saturday, Zelenskyy posted on his Telegram account:
“We expect more [exchanges] tomorrow.”
As of now, no further details have been provided regarding the number of prisoners who may be exchanged on Sunday, according to this report by DW.
