Nigerian artist Anthony Ebuka Victor, popularly known as Victony, has revealed that he had never performed on stage without drinking alcohol.
He made this confession during an interview on the Behind The Prestige Podcast, which began circulating on social media this Friday.
The artist, widely known for his hit song “Soweto”, admitted that he used to depend on alcohol to be able to entertain his fans, but has now started a journey to live a substance-free life.
He stated that he has stopped smoking and is currently trying to quit alcohol. Victony said he wants to begin performing sober, driven solely by the genuine love he has for his fans.
He said:
“Living a clean life is my new goal. I’ve been practicing it for two months and it’s going well. I had never performed without drinking before, but now I want to start doing shows completely sober so I can truly connect with my fans and let them feel my heart.”
Victony rose to fame after collaborating with Mayorkun on the song “Soweto”, which became a hit among many listeners.
In April 2021, Victony was involved in a serious car accident that claimed one life and left three others injured. In 2023, he stated that the accident was a life-changing experience that completely shifted his perspective on life.
