The IWI X95 rifle (formerly known as the Micro-Tavor, MTAR or MTAR-21) is a weapon designed and produced by Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) as part of the Tavor family of rifles, which includes the Tavor TAR and Tavor 7. Today, the X95 is also manufactured in Rwanda by Remico, in partnership with IWI.

The Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) in Rwanda is one of the elite forces that uses the Tavor X95.
History
In November 2009, the X95 was selected as the next-generation standard-issue rifle for Israel’s ground forces.

To date, it remains one of three advanced weapons adopted by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). The X95 is also in use by the Rwandan military, notably the Presidential Guard and Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU).
After being deployed by Indian forces during operations against insurgents in Kashmir, CRPF commanders reported that the X95 performs better than the AKM, due to its shorter length, greater power, longer-range accuracy, and lightweight build.

The Azerbaijani military also uses the Tavor X95.
In 2014, the IDF announced plans to upgrade certain units with enhanced X95 models, replacing the 330 mm (13.0 in) barrel with a longer 380 mm (15.0 in) barrel, along with a light-pull trigger.
In September 2021, reports revealed that frontline Israeli units began replacing Micro Tavor and M4 rifles, while existing Micro Tavor rifles were to be reallocated to reserve brigades.

Rwanda’s Role in Tavor X95 Manufacturing
In recent months, Rwanda revealed to the world that it is now locally manufacturing advanced weaponry, including the Tavor X95.
On September 7, a report on the Hebrew website of the IDF confirmed that the military plans to continue using the Micro Tavor and to equip combat units with these rifles.
The X95 is distinguishable from other Tavor models like TAR-21, CTAR-21, STAR-21, and GTAR-21 based on its design configuration.

Global Adoption
Tavor X95 rifles manufactured in Kigali are not only used by Rwanda and Israel, but also by several other countries, including:
USA, Azerbaijan (recently visited by President Kagame), Morocco, Colombia, Senegal, Thailand, Ukraine, Philippines, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Angola, Georgia, and more.
