U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected a request from Russian President Vladimir Putin to mediate with Iran in an effort to ease tensions between Iran and Israel.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said Putin called him, promising he could help bring peace, but Trump replied: “I don’t have a problem with Iran, I have a problem with you.”

Trump went on to insist that no mediation by Putin can be considered while Russia continues its war in Ukraine, stating that over six thousand soldiers were killed last week alone.

International analysts believe Putin wants to present Russia as a peace mediator, but Trump said what he needs is for Russia to stop the war before any form of partnership can be considered.

Trump also mentioned that the recent ceasefire between Iran and Israel has been disrupted again after Israel reported that Iran had resumed missile attacks. This led Trump to say, “Both countries are giving me a headache,” also expressing disappointment with Israel’s behavior.
