French President Emmanuel Macron is seeking to bring together President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo for a summit focused on the humanitarian crisis in eastern Congo.
The meeting is scheduled to take place in Paris on July 25, 2025.
It is not yet confirmed whether Presidents Kagame and Tshisekedi will accept Macron’s invitation.
Next month, both leaders are also expected to meet again in Washington, D.C., United States, where they will be received at the White House by President Donald Trump.
Since 2021, relations between Rwanda and DRC have significantly deteriorated due to ongoing conflict involving the M23 rebel group, in which the DRC government forces are engaged.
Kinshasa accuses Rwanda of supporting the M23 group, which currently controls various parts of North Kivu and South Kivu provinces—an allegation Rwanda strongly denies.
This Friday, the two countries are expected to sign a peace agreement in Washington, following lengthy negotiations.
The agreement is expected to mark the beginning of the end of nearly four years of diplomatic tensions.
