More than 220,000 students have started the national primary school leaving examinations marking the end of the 2024/2025 academic year. Among the candidates are 120,635 girls and 100,205 boys.
The Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, stated that these exams are a tool to assess the knowledge students have acquired and whether they are ready to proceed to secondary school.
He also highlighted that the number of girls taking the exams has surpassed that of boys, and that students with disabilities received full support to ensure their participation.
Currently, 642 students with disabilities are sitting for the exams.
The national exams for lower secondary school started on Monday, June 30, 2025, and will conclude on Wednesday, July 3, 2025. These will be followed by upper secondary national exams starting on July 9, 2025.
