Armed fighters from groups that the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) refers to as Wazalendo are accused of kidnapping two senior commanders of the M23 rebel group.
The kidnapped officers reportedly led M23 forces stationed in Misinga, located in the Ikobo groupement, Walikale territory.
According to ACTUALITÉ, the kidnapping took place overnight between Sunday and Monday, June 30, as the two commanders were traveling between the villages of Kirumburumbu and Muuli.
Sources cited by the media outlet did not disclose the identities of the kidnapped M23 officers but confirmed that they were taken to Wazalendo’s main base in a location known as Buhimba.
The M23 movement has not yet commented on these allegations.
Additional reports say that on Monday, M23 fighters launched a search operation in the forests of Kirumburumbu and Muuli, aiming to track down those responsible for the abduction, but failed to locate anyone.
As of Monday evening, there was still no update on the whereabouts of the kidnapped commanders.
