A Rayon Sports fan named Musabyimana Emmanuel, popularly known as Gacuma, has revealed that he was briefly jailed over accusations of throwing stones at the Bugesera Stadium, even though he says he had no involvement in the incident.

In an interview with the Kigali Active Media YouTube channel, Gacuma said that he and other fans—Ferdinand and Wanyanza—were unexpectedly arrested following riots that erupted during a league match between Bugesera FC and Rayon Sports on May 17, 2025.

The match was marked by controversial behavior from the referee, which angered Rayon Sports supporters. Some fans began throwing stones, forcing the match to be halted in the 52nd minute due to safety concerns.

Gacuma stated that at the time of the incident, he had gone to watch a Rayon Sports women’s match in Nzove.

He added that the arrest was based on claims made by another fan named Nkundamatch, who is known to be a liaison for Amavubi supporters.

Gacuma has since been released—though he did not disclose how long he was detained—but insists that the accusations against him are false. He called for fans’ rights to be respected.

At the time the match was stopped, Rayon Sports was losing 2-0. When the game was resumed, the final score was 2-1.
