On Tuesday, in Sake city, located just 24 km from Goma in Kamuronza Groupement, Masisi Territory, North Kivu Province, AFC–M23 forces conducted a major search operation with security agencies to restore order.
Starting at 5:30 AM, the raids covered sites such as Mosquée, Birere 1, Birere 2, Virunga, and Ndoolero, targeting suspected security disruptors. According to AFC/M23-Twirwaneho’s X account, nearly 900 people were checked during the operation.
Following thorough inspections, approximately 20 suspects linked to Kinshasa-backed disruptive networks were arrested and transported to Goma for in-depth investigations. The mission signals AFC–M23’s determined effort to clean up the city and ensure resident safety—marking a significant step forward for the region.
Since capturing Sake in January 2025, AFC–M23 has stepped up its actions to reinforce security in this previously volatile, heavily militarized town.
It is alleged that local authorities had armed youth, contributing to instability. Today, M23 is working to disarm civilians, with early results bringing hope and order to Sake residents.
This follows similar operations in Mahyutsa 1 two weeks ago, reflecting M23’s resolve to establish trust and safety. In contrast, the Kinshasa government, rather than supporting this stabilization, continues to back groups actively undermining M23’s efforts.
