Rwandan female artist Teta Barbara, popularly known as Babo, has revealed her dream of joining the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF). She made this statement while participating in the 15th edition of the Indangamirwa Civic Education Program, currently taking place in Nkumba, Burera District.
Babo is among 438 young people undergoing training on Rwandan cultural values, national history, and citizens’ responsibilities.
In an interview with Radio Rwanda, Babo explained that her deep love for her country inspires her desire to serve it through the military.
She said:
“I wanted to learn Rwanda’s history and prepare myself to serve it. Joining the army is one of the greatest ways to demonstrate patriotism.”
This civic training is attended by youth from the diaspora, students from international schools in Rwanda, graduates of the Inkomezabigwi National Service Program, and youth leaders.
The Minister of National Unity and Civic Engagement, Dr. Jean Damascène Bizimana, urged the youth to promote unity and resist negative foreign influences.
Babo is known for songs such as “Yogati” with Bruce Melodie and “Go Low” featuring The Ben. She says she is ready to leave music behind if her country calls her to serve.
