On Sunday, July 6, fighting broke out between the FARDC (Congolese Armed Forces), supported by Wazalendo militias, and the AFC/M23 rebels on Mount Fungura, overlooking the villages of Katobi and Mera, in the Kisimba Groupement (Walikale Territory).
Reports from the area indicate that the clashes began in the evening when both sides encountered each other during patrol operations, according to this report by Actualite.cd.
The sound of both heavy and light gunfire was heard until midnight, prompting residents of Katobi and Mera in the Banakindi area to flee.
Information from the region suggests that Monday was relatively calm, although it remains difficult to determine who currently controls Mount Fungura.
The number of casualties remains unknown, but some reports indicate that the situation is deteriorating in the combat zone.
