In the courtroom of the Intermediate Court of Huye, on Monday, July 7, the trial took place involving five individuals—including one woman—accused by the prosecution of killing a 57-year-old man by slitting his throat.
The crime occurred on the night of June 7, 2025, around 10:00 PM in Ngoma III village, Ngoma cell, Ngoma sector, Huye district, where the victim was found dead in his house.
According to this report from the Office of the Prosecutor General, during the hearing, the defendants pleaded guilty and explained how they planned the crime: they made duplicate keys to the house where the victim was staying, and in the evening, they waited for him to return home. As soon as he entered, they grabbed him, strangled him while holding his legs, and one of them used a knife to cut his throat, killing him. They asked for forgiveness for the crime.
The prosecution requested life imprisonment for four of the suspects, based on Article 107 of Law nº 68/2018 of 30/08/2018 relating to offences and penalties in general. The fifth person, who refused to share information despite knowing about the murder plan, was recommended for a 2-year prison sentence and a fine of 500,000 Rwandan Francs.
The case was closed and the verdict is expected on July 21, 2025 at 3:00 PM.
