The ruling CNDD-FDD party in Burundi has announced a new initiative to provide military training to all willing and able youth across the country. This program aims to support the Burundian National Defense Force (FDNB) in maintaining national security.
Reverien Ndikuriyo, Secretary-General of the CNDD-FDD, made this announcement during a party campaign event held on May 17, 2025, at the Nkurunziza Peace Park Complex in Burunga Province. He emphasized that the training is open to all Burundian youth who are capable and interested, and who align with the party’s values.
The trained youth will form part of a new security structure called the Force de Réserve et d’Appui au Développement (FRAD), established by a presidential decree signed by President Evariste Ndayishimiye on May 8, 2025. FRAD is designed to complement the FDNB in security matters and will be led by Major General Ignace Sibomana.
This move is part of the government’s broader strategy to involve citizens in national defense and development efforts, reflecting a commitment to enhancing security and stability throughout Burundi.
