U.S. President Donald Trump has declared Brazilian legend Pelé as the greatest footballer of all time.
Trump made the remarks following the FIFA Club World Cup final, where Chelsea (England) defeated Paris Saint-Germain (France) 3-0 at MetLife Stadium in front of over 81,000 fans.
Trump, alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, presented the trophy to Chelsea.
When asked by DAZN TV who he considered the greatest player ever, Trump responded:
“Many years ago when I was still young, they brought in a player named Pelé to play for a team called Cosmos. The stadium was packed just like this one, and it was all because of Pelé.”
“I don’t remember all the details because I was young, but I remember going to see Pelé. He was incredible. So going back, I’d say Babe Ruth (baseball) and Pelé were absolute legends.”
Pelé, who passed away in 2022, played for several teams, including New York Cosmos between 1975 and 1977 before retiring.
While Pelé remains iconic, other legendary players include Lionel Messi, Diego Maradona, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo Nazário, Cristiano Ronaldo, and others.
