Rwanda Defense Force announced that today at around 17h35, a soldier of the DR Congo army (FARDC) crossed over from DRC and shot at RDF soldiers manning the common border between ‘Grande Barrière’ and ‘Petite Barrière’ in Rubavu District.
According to RDF, Rwandan side returned fire, killing the FARDC soldier on the Rubavu side, at the border. “Several other FARDC soldiers fired at the RDF position resulting in a brief exchange of fire. The situation is now calm.” Added.
After the death of FARDC soldier and fire exchange, RDF confirms that it has communicated the incident to the Extended Joint Verification Mechanism, EJVM, to investigate.
This is the third FARDC soldier shot on Rwandan territory since August 2022.
