The Ugandan People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) signed a new military cooperation agreement on Friday.

The agreement was signed during a visit to Kinshasa by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces and son of President Yoweri Museveni.

FARDC stated that this visit aimed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces in the fight against the ADF terrorist group.

In a meeting between Gen. Muhoozi and his Congolese counterpart, Lt. Gen. Jules Banza Mwilambwe, both parties expressed satisfaction with the progress made in joint operations, particularly Operation Shujaa, which targets the elimination of ADF.

They reported that several ADF bases had already been destroyed as a result of these operations.

FARDC and UPDF also signed a new military cooperation agreement, focusing on joint combat operations, intelligence sharing, and military training, while respecting the sovereignty of the DRC.

The joint military offensive against the ADF group began in November 2023, and forces from both countries have since killed many ADF fighters, including top commanders.
