Joseph Kabila Meets with M23 Leaders
Joseph Kabila Kabange, who has spent nearly a week in the city of Goma, met on Friday, May 30, with leaders of the Alliance Fleuve Congo coalition, which includes the M23 rebel group.
Among those who met with Kabila were Corneille Nangaa, the coordinator of the Alliance Fleuve Congo, and Bertrand Bisimwa, the president of the M23 movement.
Through his X (formerly Twitter) account, Nangaa stated that the coalition’s meeting with Kabila was aimed at “establishing and strengthening lasting peace, national unity, and sustainable cohesion.”
Kabila’s meeting with M23 leaders came after he had already held talks with religious representatives and traditional leaders from the North Kivu province.
The former President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, who ruled from 2001 to 2019, has been in Goma since last Sunday, after returning from exile in southern African countries where he had taken refuge.
