One person died and another was seriously injured in an exchange of fire between two fighters called “Wazalendo”, Sunday November 12 evening in Munigi, about ten kilometers north of Goma (North Kivu).

According to local society, this incident created psychosis in the villages of Rukoko, Kihisi and their surroundings in the Munigi group, in Nyiragongo territory.

The same source indicates that these two armed men argued in a drinking establishment, before exchanging fire.

A young man living in the same village was shot and seriously injured; while one of these fighters was killed.

These armed men are believed to be part of local armed groups, nicknamed “Wazalendo”, who are fighting the M23 rebellion on several fronts.

The secretary rapporteur of civil society, Thierry Gasisiro, deplores the fact that “the presence of these armed groups creates total confusion in the community, because we no longer know who is involved in operations against the M23 and who is not.”

According to him, “all armed bandits pose as Wazalendo in order to commit abuses”.

Thierry Gasisiro calls on the authorities to take measures to manage these armed fighters.
