The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) has distanced itself from a false statement circulating online claiming that President Paul Kagame is seriously ill.
Since the night of Monday, June 23, this fake statement has been widely shared on social media.
The fabricated message claims that President Paul Kagame is suffering from a severe illness, is in critical condition, and is currently being treated by a team of medical specialists.
It calls on Rwandans and so-called “friends of Rwanda” to unite and pray for the Head of State.
It also urges citizens to remain calm, asserting that national institutions are still functioning and that the RDF remains committed to safeguarding the country’s peace and security.
Through its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the RDF declared that this message and its contents are fake news.
The Rwandan military strongly condemned these rumors, which come amid a wave of online misinformation being spread by individuals opposed to the Rwandan government, particularly concerning President Kagame’s health.
