The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has officially submitted to the Prosecutor General’s office the case file against Retired Major Rugamba Robert and Retired Captain Jean Paul Munyabarenzi, who are suspected of various offences including illegal mining in Nyagisozi sector, Nyanza District.
Last month, Rwanda’s Southern Province Police reported the arrest of seven individuals linked to illegal mineral mining, including Rtd Major Rugamba Robert, a prominent figure in Nyanza’s mining sector. These arrests followed the apprehension of another 17 suspects accused of raiding ALMAHA mining company, injuring eight people and stealing 200 kg of Coltan.
At the time, police didn’t name each suspect publicly, but sources indicated that Major Rugamba Robert—owner of Rugamba Mining Company Ltd—was among those arrested.
After his arrest, Rugamba was handed over to RIB at Nyanza station, later released on health grounds, while Capt. Munyabarenzi remained detained at the RIB Busasamana station.
