A report by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) has ranked Rwanda 91st in the world on the 2025 Global Peace Index.
The IEP annually publishes the Global Peace Index (GPI), which evaluates and ranks countries around the world based on their level of peace.
In the 2025 report, Rwanda moved up one position from 92nd in 2024 to 91st globally.
In Africa, Rwanda ranks 17th, and in the East African region, it is 2nd, only behind Tanzania.
However, while Tanzania remains the most peaceful in East Africa, it dropped 8 positions globally compared to last year.
Globally, Iceland remains the most peaceful country in the world with a score of 1.095, followed by Ireland, New Zealand, Austria, Switzerland, Singapore, Portugal, Denmark, Slovenia, and Finland.
