Former U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in resolving conflicts involving countries such as Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Rwanda and the DRC have recently been engaged in U.S.-led mediation efforts to end a three-year-long conflict between the two nations.
This conflict stems from fighting between Congolese government forces and the M23 rebel group, which the DRC accuses Rwanda of supporting.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that he and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio managed to secure a peace deal between the neighboring nations.
He said:
“I am very pleased to announce that, together with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, we were able to broker a great peace agreement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo amid a bloody conflict that resulted in more deaths than many other wars over the decades.”
Trump claimed that the agreement will be signed on Monday, June 23, by representatives from Rwanda and the DRC—contradicting earlier reports from Washington which had indicated the deal would be signed on June 27.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump argued that his interventions in Rwanda, the DRC, and several other countries should qualify him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
He added:
“They should award me the Nobel Prize for what I did in Rwanda, Congo, Serbia, Kosovo… so many places. But most importantly, for what I did in India and Pakistan. Honestly, I should have won it four or five times.”
Trump also admitted on Truth Social that he knows he won’t receive the award despite believing he deserves it.
Referring again to the Rwanda-DRC deal, he said:
“This is a big day for Africa—actually, for the whole world. But I won’t receive the Nobel Peace Prize for this. I won’t receive the Peace Prize for stopping the war between India and Pakistan, or between Serbia and Kosovo. I won’t receive the Peace Prize for helping maintain peace between Egypt and Ethiopia, even though the U.S. heavily supported that effort.”
Trump also cited the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and several Middle Eastern countries, as another reason he should be honored.
He added:
“No, I won’t receive the Nobel Peace Prize, no matter what I do—including my efforts with Ukraine and Russia, or with Israel and Iran. What matters is the outcome—but people should know that this is what really counts to me.”
Pakistan had nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize after his role in helping stop an armed confrontation with India over the disputed Kashmir region.
